Also, don’t forget that the first awakening was not an awakening of religion, it was the enlightenment of science. Yes I understand the Enlightenment and the Awakening are different, but the decreasing religion aided the increased interest in science as people stopped explaining natural phenomenons with God. The first Great Awakening essentially killed theology and overly intense puritanism. That aside, I still think it would be impossible to incite the same amount of excitement that came with the second great awakening today.
